Frequently Asked Questions:
What's the difference between my windshield and the other glass in my car?
There's a very important difference between your windshield and the rest of the glass in your car.
Your windshield is made of LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS. What makes it unique is its special construction, designed to offer optimum safety in the event of a crash. LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS is made up of two pieces of glass, with a thin layer of vinyl sandwiched between them.
When a small object strikes a piece of laminated safety glass, often only the outer layer struck breaks. This is what makes windshield rock chip repair possible.
The side and rear windows are made of TEMPERED GLASS
This "tempering" process makes the glass many times stronger than un-tempered glass of the same thickness.
Upon impact, TEMPERED GLASS is designed to disintegrate into small pieces of glass There should be no large, jagged pieces of glass to injure the driver or passengers. However, the force necessary to break a piece of tempered glass is considerably more than an un-tempered piece.
I have a crack or a ding in my windshield - is it really important that I fix it right away?
Yes! It's important for two reasons:
If the ding is small, it may be repairable. That means we can "mend" the break without replacing your entire windshield. Repairing your windshield typically takes less than 30 minutes,if for any reason it fails; the cost of the repair will be applied toward a replacement windshield.
Best of all, in most cases, your insurance company will waive the deductible on repair service, so it's free to you! But the longer you let the damage remain without having it fixed, the more dirt and debris will collect in the break - and the more the break will spread. If it gets too big, it's very likely that a replacement will be necessary.
The second reason to have a damaged windshield fixed is for your own safety. The windshield is more than just a "shield" from wind and road dirt, it's an important structural element of your car. It helps keep you and your passengers in the car in a front impact accident, and keeps your car's airbag in the optimum position so it can function as designed. If your windshield is weakened due to damage, it could be dangerous to you and your passengers in the event of an accident. Also, damaged glass may cause optical impediments when driving, particularly at night, which is a significant safety hazard.
What is OEM glass?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means that the glass meets the original specifications for safety and quality as the glass that it came with from the factory. Windshields may look simple, but they are actually made from two pieces of glass that are bent in a very precise way. If a windshield does not meet the exact specifications of the manufacturer, it will not fit precisely in your car.
Our Windshields are OEE (Original Equipment Equivalent) Certified. Rests assure that they will fit correctly in your vehicle.
Do you schedule time frames for the mobile auto glass appointment?
Yes. We do prefer to have a four hour window for appointment times. We recommend either a morning appointment 8-12 or afternoon appointment 1-5. When necessary, we can narrow the time frame to a two hour window of 8-10, 10-12, 1-3, and 3-5. Special accommodation can be made upon request. Nevertheless, a Technician will call you before arrival to narrow the time down for you.
Will weather conditions affect my scheduled appointment?
Yes. If it is raining and there is no cover your appointment may need to be rescheduled for a later time.
The car glass shattered all over my vehicle, will it be cleaned?
Yes. Your professional Technician will vacuum all visible glass pieces found in and around your vehicle and inside the frame.
Can you replace or repair my auto glass without me being present?
Yes. However, we will need your verbal or written authorization and access to your vehicle. The vehicle will need to be left unlocked to complete the work. For power door glasses, we will need the keys in order to get power to the door. We would be happy to lock the vehicle and return the keys when completed.
Do I have to wait to drive my vehicle after a windshield replacement?
Yes. There is a manufacturers' recommended safe drive away time of approximately one hour. We use only high quality and fast curing urethane adhesives for your safety.
Tip: The urethane adhesive is the single most important component in any windshield replacement. If you do not choose Our Company for your windshield repair, be sure to check with your chosen auto glass replacement company on their "windshield adhesive choice". You want to be sure that the auto glass replacement company is using an adhesive product that is made for windshield replacements.
Will my rear view mirror be reattached to the windshield in the same place?
Yes. In most cases, the rear view mirror bracket is already located on the new windshield. Therefore, the technician simply removes the old mirror and reattaches it to the new bracket.
What is a Rain Sensor?
It is a small electronic device under the mirror. It automatically turns on the windshield wipers as soon as it senses rain.
How soon can I get an auto glass mobile appointment?
In most cases, we can schedule an appointment the same day or within 24 hours.
